3.1 Making some of that money back...
1.0 The Basics
With summoning you can summon various "familiars" which are monsters with certain abilities, to find out which monsters you can summon at your level click the summoning icon in the skills tab.
1.1 Summoning and its uses:
Summoning can be a very useful skill for money making, fighting monsters and training skills.
There are "foragers" which create items in their inventory for you, fairly useless if you ask me. "Beasts of burden" or "B.O.B" will hold a number of items for you, very useful for carrying extra food and items for killing monsters. Finally there are those familiars which fight, the hits they deal to monsters give you xp the combat style that they use which is again found in the summoning skills tab.
1.2 Getting Started:
To Start you must complete the "wolf whistle" quest which, as is the skill, is members only. The quest takes no time and will help you to understand the skill well. As a reward you will get 275 gold charms and level 4 summoning. If used to maximum efficiency the charms from the quest can get you to level 20 (will cover this in "1.3").
Now to create pouches using these charms you must take the right number of empty pouches, spirit shards and "tertiary ingredients" for the pouches you want to make. Pouches and shards can be bought from summoning stores, there is one in taverly. The tertiary ingredient can be bought on the grand exchange. To find out what ingredient the pouch you want needs, you must once more look to the summoning skill tab:
as you can see, Dreadfowls require a raw chicken and 8 spirit shards.
Once you have gathered all of the things you need, you should head to a summoning "obilisk" there is one in taverly below the summoning store (you encounter this one in the quest) but once you hit 57 summoning there is a much faster way. We will cover that later.
I advise you get 10 construction at this point and move your house to taverly to make pouches quick.
The method:
*Withdraw your blank pouches, shards, charms, house teleports, and a full inventory of ingredients
*Equip a ring of dueling
*teleport to your taverly house, leave the house and run down to the summoning shop
*climb down the trap door and click "infuse pouches obilisk"
*teleport to castlewars bank using ring of dueling
*Bank and repeat.
The method (57+ Summoning):
*Withdraw your blank pouches, shards, charms, house teleports, and a full inventory of ingredients
*Equip a ring of dueling & Summon a Spirit Kyatt
*teleport outside piscatoris using the spirit kyatt.
*climb down the nearby trap door and click "infuse pouches obilisk"
*teleport to castlewars bank using ring of dueling
*Bank and repeat.
1.3 Leveling and costs
As mentioned above, using the charms from the quest it is possible to get up to 20 summoning.
to achieve this:
Make 94 dreadfowls (level 4-10) 15,200gp
127 spirit spiders (level 10-16) 179,832gp
18 granite crabs (levels 16-17) 7758gp
36 Mosquitos (levels 17-20) 107244gp
this will cost a total of 310,034gp and before I continue, I must stress summoning is not a cheap skill!
you can however sell these pouches back on the grand exchange to save a little money, this cuts the costs to about 190,622gp
1.4 Charms
Charms come in 4 different colors: gold, green, crimson and blue.
Gold charms are mostly used for beasts of burden and low level monsters, these provide the least experience.
Green charms are mostly for skill training monsters, these are a little less common than gold charms and provide more experience
Crimson charms summon fairly powerful monsters, less common still than green charms but can provide the best experience.
Blue charms are rare but summon powerful monsters, except the "talon beast" these give the most summoning experience.
2.0 Collecting charms
To get my main to level 73 summoning, I personally just always picked up charms from slayer tasks and general monster killing.
After level 20 you want to be collecting crimson charms pretty much all the way to 99. If you come across some blue charms along the way, save them! They will be much more useful at higher levels.
Here is a list of the best crimson charm droppers (depending on your combat level and abilities):
For Low levels:
Shadow warrior (level 48) drop rate: roughly 1/4 (Requires access to Legends Guild)
Cockroach worker (level 56) drop rate: roughly 1/6
Ice Giants (level 58) drop rate: roughly 1/9 (a lot of golds to be had too)
For Medium levels:
Cockroach soldier (level 86) drop rate: roughly 1/4
Greater Demons (level 92) drop rate: roughly 1/3
For High levels:
Dust Devils (level 93) drop rate: roughly 1/3 (Requires 65 Slayer)
Black Demons (level 172) drop rate: roughly 1/2
Waterfiends (level 115) drop rate: roughly 3/4
Rock Lobsters (level 127) drop rate: 1/3 but drops 2 at a time and can kill 8+ at a time with ancients.
If you have Ancients and "Ice Burst" and you have cash to blow, Rock lobsters are by far the best to kill for charms. Watch a guide here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAJ3PZjf3D0
