What is an obby mauler?
An obby mauler is a low level strength pure that wields the 'Tzhaar-Ket-Om', also known as an obby maul. They hit very high against there level range, which is 95% pures. 1 defence vs 1 attack is the same as 70 attack vs 70 defence, it hits quite good.
Why an obby mauler?
For it's massive hits and extremely low combat level. A 99 strength obby mauler with 70 hp is only level 50!! At level 50, most pures have 60 hp. You hit 45's with obby maul. BRUTAL.
What attack level?
Personally, I think 1 attack is the best. You stay the minimum combat. 5 attack and 10 attack don't really make a difference.
What prayer level?
DO NOT GET PRAYER UNTIL YOU HAVE 99 STRENGTH. For 31 prayer its about 3 combat levels. In 3 combat levels you can get 6 strength levels. Strength potions will also increase your strength more (The percentage+). Nuff said.
Why not a vesta/corrupt pure?
they fail first of all. 20 attack levels = 20 strength levels. So when you have 80 strength they have 60. AND you have to pay like 1.2m for a weapon that only lasts like 15 minutes. That fails.
Step 1: Picking the name
You want to pick a good unique name. Some names I've used before have been: Raaawwrrrr, Phuruku, Desolyt, and Descynt. The better the name the more fun it is to play.
Step 2: First steps
Run through tutorial island. As soon as you get out run to barbarian village, following this path:
Enter the bar and pick up 5-10 beers and meat.
Run through the stronghold of security and stronghold of player safety, located in these places.
After you finish you should have 20k gold, boots + gloves.
Run to the grand exchange, following this path.
Buy this gear, for a total of about 5-7k gp. You should have 13-15k left.
Step 3: Training 1-60
Since you will be having low attack and low defence, you will be hit often by normal enemies and will rarely hit on THEM. A good place to go is seagulls. They don't hit, have very weak defence, and have very high hp. 'Home Teleport' to lumbridge and follow this path.
(You can do this either by hand or by BOT, there is a free 'Auto Seagulls' from autofighter.org and rstrainers.com.)
If you are doing this by bot, you can stay F2P and just do this to level 60 strength.
If by hand, do this until level 40 and buy membership. As soon as you have membership, buy a 'Red Topaz Machete'. This is the best weapon you can have for one attack.
At level 40 you're going to want to go to rock crabs. To get there, run to the grand exchange, similar to how we did it earlier. Buy a 'Camelot Teleport'. In your inventory, have a Camelot Teleport, 26 trout, and 2000 coins.
Break the tab and follow this path.
Stay here until you have 60 strength. Once you've reached 60 strength, we're going to need some money for the maul and necklace.
Step 3: Making Money [Hunter].
There are a lot of ways to make money, but by far the best for an obby mauler is hunter. To start, buy a 'ring of dueling' from the Grand Exchange. Tele castlewars. Bring 1000 gp and 5-10 trouts. First we will need to buy some hunter equipment.
Follow this path to get there:
Buy 4-6 bird snares and 5-6 box traps.
Our first thing to hunt will be crimson birds, follow this path to get there.
Stay here until you get 20 hunter, at which you are able to hunt tropical wagtails and set down two traps. As soon as you do that, follow this path to get to the tropical wagtails.
Stay there until 63 hunter. It may get a little boring, but it's the fastest way.
Once you hit 63, you're ready for the infamous chinchompas! Chinchompas are EXTREMELY fast and easy money. Chinchompas are located at the 'Animal Paw' hunter sign on the map.
Step 4: Training 60+
For levels 60-99, the fastest way is soulwars. You can afk while you do it, and is the best exp for obby maulers. To get there, teleport home and walk to Varrock. From there, follow this path to get to Soulwars.
Once you get there, hop to world 44. I would reccomend using the Mmsyther clan chat, he calls right almost every time. Run to the bandage area [where you see all the other players running], then run to the obelisk (where everyone else runs afterwards) and use it on players that are damaged. Dying as well as hitting someone (0 or not) will also get you activity points. If your activity meter goes to 0, you're kicked out of the game; don't let that happen. That's all there is too it! 99 is only a month away using this method.
Step 5: Training Range
Range is an important part of a mauler. You use it to bring the opponents hp down at a fast level, then quickly switch to a maul to KO. Here is a table for how much range you should have at each strength level.
STRENGTH | RANGE
60 | 40
75 | 50
80 | 55
90 | 60
99 | 67
The reason it has to be so exact is because you always want to be balanced. You don't want to be mainly strength, or mainly range. You want to be both at the same time. To be honest, the fastest spot is rock crabs. Buy bronze knifes and use those, it's the fastest way. DO NOT pass 67 range OR mage. If you pass this level, you will no longer be an obby mauler!
Step 6: Training Mage
This will allow for easier and cheaper teleporting, a long with the ability to use the mighty slayer staff. The ratio for strength/mage is the same as in the table above.
To train mage, we will start by getting 19 for curses. Get to Varrock then follow this path to get to Fist of Guthix.
At fist of guthix, the runes are free. So basically free magic experience! Keep casting magic against your enemies until level 19. At level 19, you now have the ability to curse!
CURSING is really fast and cheap magic experience. Go to the grand exchange and buy however many runes you need. Once you have done this, 'Home Teleport' to lumbridge and follow this path.
Then just keep casting 'curse' on the magic dummies!
You can do this by hand, it's extremely quick. If you don't want to, there is a free curser bot at rsbots.net.
Step 7: Training Slayer.
The only good reason for slayer on an obby mauler is for the Slayer Staff. This provides the best DPS [damage per second] for a 1-39 attack account! Better then an adamant scimitar!
Look at the stats compared to your old Red Topaz Machete.
WOW!
The only place you're going to wanna go for slayer tasks is Turael, locating in burthrope. He assigns weak monsters which give fairly good slayer experience. When killing the monsters, you'll want to use range or mage, since you 1 attack won't hit on most monsters.
To get there, buy a 'Games Necklace'. Rub it and teleport to 'Burthrope Games Room'. Climb up the stairs and follow this path.
Keep doing tasks till 55 slayer, then get your slayer staff!
Eventually everyone is forced to get a slayer staff, as you can't pk with range anymore once you reach 67.
Step 8: Pking.
Well you finally made it! I'll be telling you all about how to pk now.
First of all, you should only pk in a +1 BH world. You do not want to risk your berserker necklace, as it costs about 2M.
Equipped, you should have:
•Mith-Rune Knives [If you're under 67 range]
•Range Chaps
•Berserker necklace
•Recoil
•Team cape. [you're not going to want to right click people to KO.]
And that's all the required items. You can wear anything else for the other spots.
In your inventory, you should have
•Super Strength
•Super Range [if you have knives]
•Two recoils
•The rest monkfish/sharks
To pk, set your chat filter on 'Game' only. This is so you can easily see the notification when your Ring of Recoil breaks, and equip a new one. Recoils are amazingly important to your pking, 70% of my KO's are because of my recoils.
Use knives on your opponent. When they're about 3/5 hp, click your maul and quickly click on your opponent. The maul will hit them at the same speed the knives we're hitting at, which is amazingly fast. You can KO most of your opponents in 1-2 minutes.
Step 9: The future
After you do your kick ass "knife -> obby" maul combo for a while, you'll start getting bored. Although you will be hitting extremely high for your level, you will quickly get frustrated with the innacuracy and the fact that you have no "special attack" to bring a higher percentage of KO factor the table.
At this point, after 90 or so strength, I would reccomend that you either get range/mage/attack up. Passing your 67 range/mage limits allows you to use black dhide, rune crossbows, and dark bows with further proffeciency then you ever could have before.
Getting attack gives you access to many weapons that will almost 100% guarantee you a KO. I reccomend starting at 50 attack, trying that for a while and then moving on if you don't like it, because you can always go higher but ye can't go lower.
Step 10: Patience
Doing this isn't easy, and I reccomend you keep your virtual stamina and fortitude up. Even those days that you don't feel like playing runescape, make an effort to go on your account and do it. Another option is to set up a play-schedule, so you have a goal for each day.
Try to aim for 500k-1m/70 zeal per day. Following this you'll have a perfect account is less then a few months!
I wish you luck on your account!
